Xenophobic Disinformation

We lead efforts in countering xenophobic disinformation to stop the spread of false, harmful narratives that target refugees, migrants, and minority groups to incite hatred and violence.

We monitor how online deception gets weaponised to create hostility toward Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh or toward returning migrant workers.

This specific type of information disorder destabilises communities and blocks humanitarian aid.

The UN refugee agency explicitly names xenophobic disinformation as a massive threat to the safety and integration of displaced populations.

We tackle this issue through rapid-response research and community-level interventions. We track the origins of hate speech and work with local leaders to debunk false claims fast.

Our activism in this space makes sure migration governance includes strong mechanisms for social cohesion. We actively counter the digital narratives that seek to divide host communities from those desperately seeking refuge.
