Migration Health and Misinformation

0 entries All research themes CDMR home

We tackle migration health and misinformation as the spread of false health information that directly damages the physical and mental well-being of migrants, refugees, and displaced populations.

We document how information disorder blocks marginalised groups from getting healthcare or forces them into dangerous pseudo-medical scam operations.

During crises, rumours about disease outbreaks in refugee camps can easily spark violence and block humanitarian aid.

The global health and migration sector identifies misinformation as a massive barrier to achieving health equity for mobile populations (IOM Bangladesh, 2022).

We integrate health communication into our broader migration research. We work to identify the exact sources of health-related online deception in displaced communities.

By partnering with health workers, we design targeted literacy solutions that counter dangerous myths. This ensures refugees and labour migrants get accurate health information.
