Pre-departure Information Literacy

We approach pre-departure information literacy as training workers get before leaving home, zeroing in on digital and financial literacy to ensure safe travel.

We argue that standard pre-departure orientations fall totally short in an era ruled by digital recruitment scams and online deception.

Aspiring migrants need to know how to verify overseas job offers, understand recruitment fees, and protect their personal data from predators.

It has been found that integrating financial literacy into pre-departure training drastically cuts the rates of fraud and debt bondage among outgoing workers (BRAC Migration Programme, 2023).

We take these findings and build them into our own curriculum development. We work with technical training centres to embed information literacy straight into their standard modules.

By doing this, we ensure migrants actively learn how to navigate digital spaces safely. This proactive approach acts as a critical solution to the systemic problems of labour trafficking and exploitation.
