Media and Information Literacy

Media and information literacy (MIL) is a comprehensive competency framework that empowers individuals to access, evaluate, create, and share information and media critically, ethically, and effectively, which increasingly must integrate digital competencies and AI literacy.

We recognise that fragmented approaches - treating media literacy, information literacy, and digital skills as separate boxes - fail to prepare people for a landscape where platforms, algorithms, and generative AI shape how information is produced and circulated.

UNESCO's MIL framework emphasises that MIL is a set of life competencies essential for navigating 21st-century information ecosystems, combating mis- and disinformation, and upholding human rights online.

We upgrade MIL by integrating it into education policies, curricula, and non-formal learning at scale. We design learning outcomes that combine critical analysis, ethical reflection, and practical digital skills, and we train teachers and facilitators to use participatory, cross-curricular methods.
